Baby Skin Maintenance Phase

(What We’re Doing Now)

After months of trial and error, flares, and ingredient deep dives, we’ve officially entered what I’d call our maintenance phase.

This isn’t a “perfect skin” phase — but it is a stable, balanced, no-chaos phase. And that feels huge.

Here’s exactly what we’re doing right now:

🌞 Morning Routine

He almost always pees through his diaper at night. Because urine can disrupt the skin’s pH and barrier, I keep mornings very simple:

• Gentle water wipe-down

• Let skin air dry fully

No cleansers. No wipes. Just water.

Then we moisturize.

I start with Vanicream lotion and let that absorb for a few minutes.

After that, I apply CeraVe cream (adult version) to extra dry areas — chest, armpits, ankles, and sides.

We avoid the baby version because the niacinamide previously caused a burning reaction on his compromised skin barrier.

Sometimes I’ll lightly top everything with a small amount of Roe Wellness cream.

☀️ Midday Reset

Around noon, we do some diaper-free time to let his skin breathe (he runs HOT and heat is one of his biggest triggers).

During this time, I’ll reapply:

• Vanicream lotion

• CeraVe cream to dry areas

Heat is a big fungal trigger for him. When fungal irritation flares, it can look like dry eczema patches because treating fungus often involves drying the skin — which can create secondary dryness.

Not a bad reaction. Just something we’ve learned to balance.

🛁 Bath Routine

We rotate between:

• Dead Sea salt baths (2-3x a week)

• Plain water baths

We’ve also been using a colloidal silver bar soap for body and hair.

Colloidal silver is often discussed for its potential antimicrobial properties. Some small studies suggest silver has antibacterial effects, and historically it’s been used in wound care (like silver-infused dressings). However, evidence for long-term daily skincare use is limited, so we use it gently and sparingly.

For us, it has felt supportive during maintenance — not aggressive, not stripping.

🌙 Post-Bath: Microbiome Support

This is where we bring in the Roe Wellness Power Pair.

After he’s fully dry:

• Roe probiotic serum

• Followed by Roe probiotic cream

The goal here isn’t to “kill” anything.

It’s to rebuild and support the skin microbiome — which is something we ignored early on while only focusing on antifungals and steroids.

Supporting the microbiome has been one of the biggest shifts in our journey.

After application, he gets more diaper-free tummy time before bed.

🌡️ Bedtime Adjustments That Helped More Than Anything

Two things made a bigger difference than I expected:

Sizing up in diapers He pees a LOT at night. Once we sized up and reduced leaking, the skin on his stomach significantly improved. Breathable fabrics Cotton or bamboo pajamas only.

While scratching has slowed down, I still tuck his hands into his jammies just in case.

Where We’re At Now

He’s softer than he’s been in months.

Redness is down.

Flares are shorter and more manageable.

This isn’t perfection — it’s maintenance.

And for now, that’s enough.

I’ll continue updating this post as things evolve.

Because if there’s one thing this journey has taught me, it’s that baby skin healing isn’t linear — it’s responsive.

🛒 Shop Our Maintenance Phase Regimen

These are the products we’re currently using during our maintenance phase. This routine is what has helped us move from constant flaring to stable, manageable skin.

(Always consult your pediatrician before starting new products. What works for us may not work for everyone.)

🌿 Daily Moisture Support

👉🏻 Find Vanicream Lotion on Amazon: https://amzn.to/3MeqoHL

Our lightweight base layer. Gentle, simple, and well tolerated by compromised skin.

👉🏻 Find CeraVe Cream (Adult Version) on Amazon: https://amzn.to/4rIRCFe

We use this only on extra dry areas. The adult version does not contain niacinamide like the baby lotion does — which previously caused burning on his broken skin barrier.

🌊 Bath Support

👉🏻 Find Dead Sea Salt on Amazon: https://amzn.to/3OtR0Ff

We use this in lukewarm baths to help calm irritated skin and support mineral balance.

👉🏻 Find Colloidal Silver Bar Soap on Amazon: https://amzn.to/4cvtcux

Used gently for body and hair. Colloidal silver has historically been used in wound care for its antimicrobial properties. We use it sparingly and only during maintenance.

🧬 Microbiome Rebuilding

👉🏻 Find Roe Wellness Probiotic Power Serum on Amazon: https://amzn.to/4kBSeKt

Applied post-bath to support the skin microbiome once the skin is clean.

👉🏻 Find Roe Wellness Biome Barrier Cream on Amazon: https://amzn.to/4aCYVrl

Layered over the serum to lock in moisture and support barrier repair.

The Power Pair has been a game changer for rebuilding rather than constantly stripping the skin.

🌙 Nighttime Adjustments That Made a Big Difference

Sometimes the smallest changes matter the most.

💤 Sized-Up Diapers

We switched to Millie Moon diapers and sized up — and this alone reduced overnight leaks significantly.

Millie Moon has been our favorite because:

  • They’re incredibly soft
  • Cotton-based feel Fewer “extras” compared to some mainstream brands
  • Less irritation around the waistband and stomach

Once the leaking decreased, the skin on his stomach noticeably improved.

Less moisture exposure = calmer skin.

🌿 Breathable Pajamas

Heat is one of his biggest triggers. He runs HOT.

We stick to:

Little Sleepies bamboo pajamas Or simple 100% cotton jammies

Breathability is everything in maintenance mode.

When we trap heat, we see flares. When we prioritize airflow, we see calm.

Little Sleepies are especially helpful because:

  • They’re lightweight
  • Stretchy (so we can size up and avoid tight cuffs)
  • Soft enough to reduce friction on irritated patches

These aren’t sponsored recommendations. These are simply the items we’ve found work best for sensitive, heat-reactive skin.
